In a park alley on a rainy day, two men stand locked in a loving embrace, one of them sheltering both with a brick-red umbrella. Muted colors dominate the scene, with the umbrella's hue drawing the eye to the central point of the image, where warmth and togetherness triumph over the unpleasant weather.
The inspiration for this self-commissioned illustration stems from an interview I encountered in issue 103 of "Replika," the LGBTIA magazine published in Poland. Two men, who were once a couple, shared their past experiences, unveiling their vulnerabilities, psychological scars, and the painful memories of their history. What moved me the most was the image they painted of safeguarding each other's emotional well-being by holding a symbolic umbrella over their heads. This powerful metaphor of protection and care has become the central theme of my illustration.
